Govt. suppressing and fudging cancer survey figures, Congress calls upon the govt. to fight this menace on war footing.

The much belated survey of cancer conducted by the govt. has failed to unearth the actual and alarming threat the cancer disease poses in Punjab. The Congress party trashes the govt. sponsored survey where in 33,318 deaths have been reported due to cancer in the last five years. Although, it amounts to over 18 deaths everyday but the actual number of deaths and those affected by cancer in Punjab are much more.
Going by the official survey presented by the govt. there have been 33,318 deaths during the last five years i.e. less than 3 deaths in the approx. 13000 villages of the state. This average does not include our major cities like Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar besides the small towns. If the incidence of cancer was as low as projected by the govt., then whey do train loads of patients go to Bikaner daily from Bathinda? Why the said train has been given the name of Cancer Train?
The fact of the matter is that the threat of cancer is manifold more than what has been presented by the govt. There are certain villages in Bathinda, Mansa and Sangrur districts where every third home has a cancer patient. Even in a district like Kapurthala of Doaba region of where I belong, every 3rd -4th death is due to cancer.
I dare the SAD-BJP govt. to conduct a sample survey of any of the one the districts of Malwa region, under the supervision of a reputed NGO like the Roko Cancer Charitable Trust of U.K., which has done immense work in this field, the truth would prevail.
As per one camp organized by Roko Cancer last year in Sukhanand village in Moga district, 35 women were detected with breast cancer out of 673 women who were examined, this is the actual figure.
The Congress calls upon the govt. to get its priorities of working right and take up the issue of cancer on top priority. All other small time politicking such as the cheap tactics of the Badal duo to capture DSGMC elections in Delhi can wait. So can the tall claims of Sukhbir – Majithia duo about organizing defections of five Congress MLA’s can wait but our fight against cancer should not be seen as waiting and we should unitedly fight this menace on war footing. Congress also urges the govt. to increase the 1.5 lacs budget for cancer patients to Rs 5 lacs per person, so that the poor can afford to fight the disease.
