I was on Cycle Yatra in Moga, carrying message of "Respect Holy Punjabi Language". I was so much hungry after noon that I decided to enter into marriage party and have good food. My decision to enter into uninvited marriage party even surprised me but my stomach did not listen to anything expect food. I parked my cycle and first went inside the washroom to wash my dusty face so that nobody doubt me as uninvited guest and throw me out of the marriage Hall. I adjusted my dress as dissent as possible. I was little bit hesitant to enter into the Hall but when I saw young boys, girl and old aged men dancing on vulgar Punjabi songs made me enter into Hall with anguish. I went straight way to front row of the Hall and be seated as if I am chief guest of the Marriage party. Nobody gave me a dam because everybody was busy either in eating, drinking or dancing but there was one college going girl sitting near me who was busy in clicking photos of those who were dancing on Dance floor. I politely asked her whose photo she was clicking. She suddenly replied "who else I am taking my Dad's pic". I asked who is her Dad in that dancing floor. She said "the one with turban". I surprisingly said "O Saradar ji" She proudly said, "yes he is my Dad". I was shocked to see daughter taking dancing Dad's pic on Vulgar song "Lakh 28 kudi da 48 weight kudi da"
I was even more shocked when I talked to that Dad later. He said there is nothing wrong to dance on Punjabi songs because our culture is like that only. I felt pity for his knowledge about Punjabi culture. Has he been another guy without turabn I would have hold his ear and teach him the meaning of Punjabi Culture but I spared him because he was having turban because in my opinion the one who covers his head, is very near to God. When I turned my attention towards group of turbaned people, I was even more shocked to see them drinking alcohol with all pride. I recalled Gurunanak Dev's Bani" Baba hoor khana Khusi Khuwar,Jithe khape tann pidiye Mann me chale Vikar"..means "one should not drink or eat which culminates and corrupts the mental status of the person". I asked myself whether these people have understood the Bani of our Satguru? I went up to them and asked if they can offer me something as I was so hungary. All of them were in the state of confusion whether they are service men to serve me. I left them in that state only so that they will keep thinking that eating is more important than drinking alcohol.
Infact I did not have food in that marriage. I left the Hall without even drinking water because water like tears were flowing from eyes. I recalled sacrificed made by Gurus for the humanity. I recalled sacrificed made by freedom fighters to liberate slaved India into Independent India but after seeing great Punjabi people dancing on vulgar songs I just failed to recall my hunger to have food.My hunger just vanished after seeing Gursikh having alcohol in Public.
The modern marriage system in Punjab has corrupted people's mind so much that Punjabi people are not able to make distinguishen between good and bad culture. The society which fails to distinguish between these two extreme ends of the social phenomena , will surely in the state of confusion. I think Punjabi society should not be in confusion because all most half of the Indian population eats the food of Punjab therefore we all need to tell great Punjabi people that it is not Punjabi culture to drink alcohol. It is not Punjabi culture to dance on vulgar pop songs and it is not Punjabi culture to tolerate all these anti social activities but rather typical Punjabi culture is to find Akal Purakh in day and night. It is Punjabi culture which bends congregation with saints. Sufism which takes to altogether different world of devotion is a real Punjabi culture. Sacrificing life for others welfare is the real culture of Punjab.
Punjab has gone through many turbulence in the past . Punjab has seen many historical blunders made by many people but Punjab is still as strong as God's Kingdom. Punjab will remain strong as long as people of this great land make clear distingshen between good and bad culture.
