Over 70 veteran sashayed on ramp walk Milkha Singh, Nek Chand and other honoured

Chandigarh, December 14, 2012: Chandigarh Senior Citizens Association and Chandigarh Senior Citizens Brotherhood, Sector 37, today jointly celebrated their annual function at Mahajan Bhawan Sector 37-C Chandigarh which was well attended by over 300 senior citizens of town.

During the event senior citizens walked on the ramp in three categories – couple, male solo and female sole. Members and their spouses walked their ramp with grace and dignity like professional models. This ramp walk was judged by the jury consisting of Sh. K.K.Rattu Director Doordarshan, Mrs. Ranju Prasad, Post Master General (Punjab Region) Chandigarh and Sh. R.K.Gupta, IRS. Veteran theatre personality Sh. Parvesh Sethi anchored Catwalk.

Ranjan Kapoor bagged the first prize while Shashi Khanna stood second in female category. Shivjit Walia was placed third. In the male category Devinder Singh Chaudhary won the title while SL Bhutani ranked second. JN Shastri stood third. In the couple category, Mr & Mrs SC Kapoor won the title while Mr & Mrs Inder Kumar Thakral were runner up. Mr & Mrs Shivjit Singh Walia were placed second runner up.

One of the senior citizen Mr & Mrs VK Puri participating in the ramp walk said, “It made me feel that I am still young and above all it was made us happy when we saw out grandchildren hooting and clapped when we walk on ramp. Same impression was echoed by the Mrs Saroj Bhutani when she said, “This was the excellent idea to bring a change in our daily routines. I wish that functions should be organized at a larger scale.”

Ramp was followed by honouring the meritorious senior citizens, who have exemplary achievements in the field of Sports, Art, Education, Medical Services, Literature, Journalism, Music & Theatre etc. during their lifetime. The recipient includes Sh. Nek Chand, Mrs. J.Saupins Educationist, Sh Milkha Singh Olympian, Prof. Pt. Yashpaul Vocalist, Maj. Gen. M.S.Kandal Philanthropist, Sh.V.S.Sodhi Social Activist, Sh.J.S.Bawa (Director CBI Retd.) Administrators, Sh.V.P.Prabhakar Journalist, Sh. Parvesh Sethi Theatre person, Mrs. Suchinta Khurana Educationalist were given Lifetime achievement award.

Mrs. Dr. G.K.Nanda, Sh. S.D.Sharma Journalist S. Arjan Singh, Sh.R.K.Malhotra, Sh.S.N.Sood were given Golden Star Award. Sh.D.S.Grewal, President, CSCA was also given memento. These stage artists who had been regularly entertaining the senior citizens and several other prominent personalities and office bearers were also honoured on this occasion by Sh. S.S.Lamba Chapter President Chandigarh Senior Citizens’ Associations and Sh.R.K.Moudgil President Sector 37 Chandigarh Senior Citizens Brotherhood. Sh. H.S.Chawla Senior Vice President proposed vote of thanks.
