CHANDIGARH: December 14, A TEQIP sponsored two-week National Level Faculty
Development Programme on MAT-LAB Fundamentals and Neural Networks & Fuzzy Logic
Toolboxes was concluded at U.I.E.T, Panjab University here today.
TEQIP is a World Bank Funded Programme implemented by MHRD, Govt. of India. Presenting
the report on the programme, Er. Manoj Kumar Sharma, Co-ordinator, said that during this
two week programme the experts from industry, research laboratories and academics were
invited and they shared the use of MAT-LAB in their fields. The experts from M/s Maruti
Suzuki India Limited elaborated the design of vehicle components using MATLAB and
experts from M/s Designtech Systems, Pune explained the use of neural networks and Fuzzy
Logic using Simulink. The participants visited the CSIO lab facilities and were shown
latest technologies, by Mr. Amol Bhondekar and his team of experts, like ‘Head Up
Display’ for fighter plane, Electronic Tongue, Electronic Nose, etc. Deputy Director of
SASE, Chandigarh presented model of snow and avalanche study and how neural networks is
helpful in their study. The data analysis being done at the TBRL firing ranges were
elaborated to the participants by Mr. Anupam Anand (Scientist) and Dr. Sarbjeet Singh,
Joint Director, TBRL, Chandigarh. Fundamentals of the MAT-LAB were covered by the Prof
Maitrayee Dutta of NITTTR, Dr. Naveen Aggarwal of UIET and Mr. Ajay Mittal of PEC. The
basics of Fuzzy Logic technique and how the daily life imprecision is used in adaptive
control decisions were discussed by Mr. Manoj Kumar Sharma. He explained the concepts of
making intelligent washing machine, air-conditioner, etc. using fuzzy logic. The concept
of neural networks and their applications in intelligent systems were explained by Prof
A.K. Goel, Director, MMU, Ambala and Prof Sunil Aggarwal of UIET. Er. Y.P. Verma of UIET
gave the tips about use of Simulink in modelling the various physical systems. Prof
Renu Vig, Director, UIET gave the certificates to the participants and encouraged the
participants to take up the real life research problems and help the society.
Dr Naveen Aggarwal, Coordinator, presented a vote of thanks to the participants who are
from places across the country such as Ranchi, Faridabad, New Delhi, Jalandhar, Sonepat,
Ambala, Bathinda, etc. There were thirty four faculty members who participated in this
two week long faculty development programme, the Director, UIET informed.
